Awesome

Review by cnote

The book was good because it told me what it was like to live as a young boy in France during WWII. He was Jewish and he had to face German Nazi soldiers. At first he was scared of what was happening, especially when he found out he had to leave France. In the end, he was sad that his cousin Marcel was left behind in one of the prison camps, but was grateful he was able to escape to America to be with family and have freedom.

This book was a great story. I agree that the back of the book is a big spoiler, and if I had know it gave the book away I would not have read the back. I would definitely recommend this book to someone else.

Don't read the back cover-- spoilers!

Terrific book, but the back cover gives away the plot-- much of which you won't read until you are 3/4th of the way through the book! It's a shame that it gives so much away. Despite the spoiler on the back, the book was very interesting and gave the perspective of young Jewish children in France during the War. It also made us think about what it means to be a refugee-- an important perspective today as much as ever.
