This book was sad but also very happy. I loved reading it because it expressed a lot of emotion through the writing. Fivel kept surviving the pogroms, but his brother almost get killed. I loved Fivel so much because when he got to America, he wanted to forget his past, but he remembered his teacher who said "Never forget who you are". You can remember the the good things from your life but also grow from the hard things. It also teaches us to love and accept immigrants.

Fivel faces many challenges while moving from Poland to America. While on the boat he gets bullied and at school he tries to be more like the American kids. This book made me think more about who I am and not who others are! This book taught me a lot more about Jewish history.
