You can't put the book down!

Review by Elijah

Zayda was a Cowboy has a lot of adventure and suspense. It made me think more about how America was in the late 1800s, as well as the Jewish immigrant experience. This is a really good quick read. At first, I didn't think I would like this book, but then I surprised myself. Zayda was a Cowboy is now one of my FAVORITE BOOKS! The beginning is a little sad when he has to leave his shtetl (village) in Russia, but then it gets better when he moves to America, and you don't have to like cowboys to read it.

Zayda Was A Cowboy

Review by Keoki

I really liked this book, I'll share it with my school! I live in Texas and I learned a lot about immigrants who came to Texas to start a new life. Ranching and being a cowboy is real hard work, learning to rope, ride, camp out in the open, endure lots of critters and cover lots of ground on beans and coffee. Grandpa Zayda tells his grandson how he had come to America, walked across Russia and Poland to escape conscription into the Russian Army, earned money for an ocean voyage to America, landed in Galveston Texas, learned to be a cowboy and did a cattle drive. This book helped me to listen to and appreciate my grandparents more. Zayda was courageous, leaving his family, going on a long dangerous walk, working hard, surviving a rough ocean voyage, learning a new tough job, getting along with many different folks from many different places, all and making it work out. I am thankful for reading this book! Gam La'tova! This too is for the good! Thank You PJ Library for this book!!

"Zayda was a cowboy" was great!!!

Review by SHuns103

I know some of you don't like this book. But this is my opinion: It was an awesome book about Bill and Danny getting told a story by their Zayda about how their grandpa was Meyer ben Yehezkiel from Sherashov and how he moved to America and became the cowboy named Mike Benson! It's cool how Zayda Mike brought his siblings to America!

Perfect Blend

Review by nehemia2016

I thought this was an interesting story, to hear about the life of someone who came and ended up in an unlikely place. I love reading about the pioneers and cowboys. And I love reading about our heritage. This was the perfect blend.
