Skating with the Statue of Liberty

Gustave’s family has made it to America, but life isn’t as easy as he thought it would be. His accent and clothes are weird, and everyone disapproves of his friendship with Seppie. Should he stick by her, or do what it takes to fit in?

It reminded me of stories told my grandparents when they first came to the Americas.

Great Overall Book

Review by Anandapajama

Almost not a single thing I didn't like about this book. Was well written and kept you hooked. I would recommend reading the first book (Black Radishes) first, because I wasn't aware of it until I finished this one. But I loved it and have read it several times.

Skating with the Statue of Liberty

Review by BingoMan11

This book is the sequel to Black Radishes. Now that Gustave and Jean Paul are in the US, there are many new things to do. At first Gustave thought that the US would be a free country to everyone. He soon finds out that not everyone is treated equally, even in the USA. Gustave keeps trying to find where Marcel is but his cousin Jean Paul thinks he is dead. I learned about what it was like for new immigrants at that time.
